Preston Gralla of PC World magazine believes that “using Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware is simple.” CNET assesses Malwarebytes as a useful software for fighting MicroSoft Antivirus spyware, and has been ranked in the top 25 of the best computer-based applications. For example if you feel you have downloaded something shady, or have had a toolbar installed, you will just load up Malwarebytes and let it remove any spyware or adware. Although this might seem like a crucial drawback to the free version, in most cases you will actually only want to manually scan your system. In the free version of MalwareBytes, users must manually tell the software to scan files, as opposed to the paid version which not only has automatically scheduled scans, but can also add real-time protection as to protect your system as you are using it. MBAM scans files in batches, rather than scanning each open file, which reduces system interference (and CPU usage) when it is running. This includes annoying toolbars which you may remember from the early 2000s. MBAM was created specifially to detect and destroy malware that other anti-virus or anti-spyware do not usually find like adware and spyware, among others. Malwarebytes is available in more than 30 languages and many new languages are added with each updated. Malwarebytes can be used in conjuction with other antivirus software, and is fully compatible with them. Since version 3.0 Malwarebytes acts as full anti-virus, competing with the big antivirus players such as AVG and Norton. There is also a paid version that allows scheduled scans, real-time protection and protection of online browsing, which blocks malicious pages. A free version is available, used to scan, qurantine and remove malware (mainly Trojan horses and spyware). Malwarebytes was first released to the public in January 2008.
